Cash App is one of the easiest ways to send and receive money from other users. It allows you to complete transfers in seconds instead of having to wait hours for an old-school bank transfer to clear. However, like all apps, Cash App can sometimes come with problems of its own, and you may be met with sign-in errors from time to time. One of the most common is:
“Unable to sign in on this device.”
If you get this sign-in error, it’s usually a security issue. The most common cause is that you’re signed into Cash App on another device. However, you could also be seeing this message because your account has been limited, you have a bad data connection, or because Cash App is experiencing a random glitch.
In today’s article, I’m going to help you troubleshoot this common sign-in error. I’ve experienced it myself a few times (especially while traveling), so I’ll do my best to provide you with some personal anecdotes in addition to some well-researched answers.
Let’s solve your problem!
Unable To Sign In On This Device Cash App? Explained!
One of Cash App’s primary goals is to keep your account safe and secure. While it can certainly be annoying to be on the receiving end of these unexpected errors, keep in mind that you’re only seeing them because Cash App’s algorithm sensed that something wasn’t quite right.
These safety measures are put in place to prevent your account from getting hacked, keep your personal banking and debit card information secure, and most importantly- to keep your money from getting stolen!
All of this being said, try not to get angry with Cash App. The application is just doing its job. Thankfully, fixing this login error is fairly easy.
Below, I’m going to outline some of the usual culprits and give you some information on how to solve the particular problem.
Table of Contents
You’re Logged In On Too Many Devices
Cash App doesn’t allow users to be logged into the same account on multiple devices. As you can imagine, this would make you an easy target for fraud or misplay. Anyone in another state could easily log into your account and start spending money without your knowledge!
If you’re getting a sign-in error, then double-check your other devices (smartphones, tablets, your girlfriend’s phone, etc.) to make sure that you’re not signed in there as well. If you are, sign out of your account on those devices, close down the app, and then try again on your new device.
Your Internet Connection Isn’t Secure
Sometimes, Cash App will refuse to log in to your account or allow you to send/receive money if it senses that your internet connection is insecure. This typically happens if you’re connected to a public wifi hotspot at a restaurant, shopping mall, airport, or public park. Although you can use your Cash App card in a store, you may have trouble using the app itself if you’re on their wifi.
These public connections can often be insecure since multiple different users are usually on the same network. If one of them has some basic hacking knowledge, then they can easily infiltrate your device through the shared network and hack into your device or Cash App account, stealing your information.
Try logging out of the public wifi network that you’ve been using and switch to using your smartphone’s cellular data instead. This will usually solve the problem. If you don’t have cellular data, then wait until you can connect to a private wifi network in your home or office.
You Need To Update Your App
If you’re using an older version of Cash App, you could experience issues while logging in. Whenever the developers update the application’s version, it can disable some of the older features and interfere with account authentication.
Thankfully, this is a super-easy fix. Just go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and download the latest Cash App version! Once you’ve updated the app, close it down on your phone, open it again, and attempt to login.
You’re Out Of The Country
In the past, Cash App could only be used in the United States. In early-2018, however, they started allowing UK users to use their app to send money to other users. American users can also send payments to UK users.
That being said, you cannot use Cash App in other countries. If you’re trying to use Cash App in another country, you’ll probably have issues.
Your Account Has Been Limited
If Cash App has flagged your account for suspicious activity, it may prevent you from logging into your account. This could be due to somebody trying to hack into your saved bank account, or they could have noticed a substantial money transfer.
The best way to fix this problem is to call customer support and explain the situation to them. They’ll be to explain why they flagged your account, verify your information, and get you up and running again.
Can I Use My Cash App Card If I Can’t Log In On My Device?
Even if you’re unable to log into your Cash App account in-app, you should still be able to use your Cash App card in the store. You should also be able to load your Cash App balance (or withdraw from it) by using your Cash Card with an ATM.
