If you’re using several financial apps, there may come times when you need to access your money on one app instead of the other. During these times, it would be extremely helpful to have a way to transfer the money directly.
I’m going to explore whether or not there’s a way to transfer your money from Venmo to Cash App.
Can you transfer money from Venmo to Cash App? While there is no official way to transfer your money from Venmo to Cash App, there are a few workarounds that you can use. These include transferring the money from your Venmo to your bank account and then adding it to your Cash App from there. Another way is to use your Cash App account as your Venmo “bank account.”
You can also use a third-party app such as Apple Pay or Zelle to transfer your money. Whichever method you choose, it is important to note that there may be fees associated with these transfers. Here are all the ways you can send money to someone without Venmo.
There’s a lot more to know about transferring money between your Venmo and Cash App accounts that I can’t sum up in a single paragraph.
In the later sections of this guide, I’ll give you step-by-step instructions on how you can transfer your money between your Venmo account and your Cash App account.
Can You Transfer Money from Venmo to Cash App?
There are a few ways to transfer money from Venmo to Cash App, but the main issue is that there is no officially-supported method to exchange money between the two services.
When you consider it, it makes sense that the two services don’t let you transfer money between the two conveniently because they’re competing.
If Venmo and Cash App were to make transfers between them simpler, then it would be easier for someone to transfer all of their liquid assets from one service to the other and stop using that service.
The risk of that happening isn’t worth making the services a little more convenient for a minority of its users.
Even though you can’t transfer the money directly between the two services, there are still a few methods that you can use to transfer the cash indirectly.
The first method will involve using your Cash App account as a bank for your Venmo account, and this is more straightforward, though it may be a little more difficult to set up.
If you’re looking for a method that’s easier to set up but may take a little longer, you can also transfer the money through your bank account to Cash App.
Here’s a summary of the two options:
- Use your Cash App account as your Venmo bank account
- Transfer the cash through your bank account
It usually takes one to three business days for money transferred from Venmo to your bank account.
Using Your Cash App as a Venmo Bank Account
If you want to easily transfer funds between your Venmo and Cash App, you’ll want to use your Cash App as a bank account for your Venmo account.
Instead of using a traditional financial institution, Venmo can accept Cash App as a bank account because Cash App accounts have an associated account number.
SSNs are required for the initial account setup and to receive direct deposits.
This method allows you to transfer your funds quickly and efficiently but will require a bit of extra work to set up.
Start by opening up your Cash App and then pressing on the dollar sign that brings you to the My Cash tab. On this tab, press on cash and head to the direct deposit section.
From the direct deposit section, you can find the account number for your Cash App account. This is what will be used to link the two accounts. Next, head to the account information section of Cash App and press Copy Account Details. You’ll want to copy the routing number and account number for your account. Paste them somewhere secure.
Now you’ll want to switch over to Venmo so you can add your Cash App details to it. Head to the Venmo settings section and then head to the Payment Methods tab. Press on Add a Bank or Card and then select the Bank option.
Choose how you would like to verify your edits to your Venmo account and then refer back to the information that you pasted somewhere secure. Add the routing number and the account number to your Venmo account and you will now be able to use your Cash App as a bank account.
This is only one of the methods at your disposal, as you can also link the two accounts using your Cash App card instead of the account itself. If you’re interested in getting started with your Cash App card, we have a convenient guide on adding money to it.
To do this, head to your Venmo and open the settings and then the payment methods section. Instead of adding a bank, add a card to your account.
When it prompts you, insert the details for your Cash App card and confirm it. You can then load the money you require into your Cash App card.
Keep in mind that you will only be able to send money from Cash App to Venmo using the card method, and not the other way around.
Use Your Bank Account as an Intermediary
While this may not transfer the money between accounts as quickly as the previous method, it will be a lot more straightforward and won’t involve anywhere near as much work on your part.
You can start the transfer process by moving the money from your Venmo account to your bank account.
To do this, you’ll need to add the bank account to your Venmo and make sure that it’s verified. After that, click the Transfer to Bank option and put in the amount of money you want to move to the other account.
Choose whether you want to transfer the money instantly or if you’re willing to wait a few business days for the transfer. Your choice here depends on the urgency and when you want the money to be available in your Cash App.
Take a quick look at the transaction details to make sure that the information is correct and then hit the button to transfer the money.
When you enter your Cash App, you can head to the balance tab and then click the add cash button. Put in the amount of money that you sent to yourself and then click the add button.
Finally, confirm the transfer using your device’s PIN number.
