Does Chime Work With Venmo?

Yes. Chime works with Venmo. Most people link a Chime debit card or spending account so they can send money, receive money, and spend from the same pocket of cash.

How the link actually works

Venmo is not a bank. It needs a funding source. Chime provides a debit card and routing/account numbers through its partner banks, which Venmo can treat like any other U.S. checking account.

  1. Open Venmo and go to the payment-method or bank settings.
  2. Add your Chime debit card, or add Chime as a bank using the routing and account numbers from the Chime app.
  3. Confirm the micro-deposits or instant verification if Venmo asks for them.

After that, you can pay friends, request money, and (where Venmo allows it) use the balance in stores that accept Venmo.

Fees that surprise people

  • Instant transfer from Venmo to Chime is typically around 1.75% (Venmo’s rate changes; check the app before you tap).
  • Standard bank transfer is usually free and takes one to three business days.
  • Sending with a credit card on Venmo often adds about 3%.
If you only want to move money between your own accounts, the free 1–3 day transfer is almost always the better default. Instant is for when the rent is due tonight.

Limits

Unverified Venmo accounts have low send limits. Identity-verified accounts can send more. Instant transfers also have their own caps. Chime side limits still apply to ATM cash and certain transfers.

Chime and Venmo both flag unusual activity. A large first transfer, a new device, or a payment that looks like a purchase of goods (Venmo is still picky about that) can delay or reverse a payment. If something is stuck, check both apps’ activity screens before assuming the money vanished.
