What Stores Accept Venmo?

Venmo started as a person-to-person app. It now works at a growing list of U.S. merchants: some grocery and convenience chains, restaurants, and online checkouts that show a Venmo button (often powered by PayPal).

How in-store usually works

  • Scan a Venmo QR code
  • Choose Venmo inside a supported point-of-sale app
  • Use a Venmo debit card where Visa is accepted (that is the card network, not “Venmo the app”)

If a store says no

Staff are not required to take a username payment. Paying a cashier’s personal Venmo for a store purchase is a bad idea for both of you — it is the wrong product and it skips receipts. Use the card, or another app the store actually lists.

Coverage changes. Before you rely on it, open Venmo’s in-app search or look for the Venmo mark at the register. Online, PayPal Checkout with Venmo selected is the most reliable pattern.
